So called Environment Day

The air we breathe, the soil we live in, the water we drink and the forest we use that make our life exists come from the environment. Despite a continuous dependency on the environment  for our survival, we stipulate a need for an awareness day to encourage people to take action and to protect the environment. A specific day of the year to preserve and conserve the unique and life nurturing nature which stay unattended and unnoticed for the rest days of the year encourage us to celebrate a so-called World Environment Day on 5th June every year.

Whether the environment needs a day to be celebrated?

This question will remain unaddressed until we have gratitude for nature as a teacher. It is the only pervasive idea for bringing about the kind of changes that we need to see .

Let us celebrate environment every day and every moment because it is a time to THINK AND REFLECT.

It would be great… But what was that quote again about the last tree being cut down before we find that money can not be eaten? 😓

“When the last tree is cut down, the last fish eaten, and the last stream poisoned, you will realize that you cannot eat money” The time to act is NOW

I see you know it… I am however much more of a pessimist: the time to start acting was in the 1980’s. It’s come and gone. We need to brace ourselves for the long haul – and hope our species survives. Read my post #Seven – I do believe in a resilient planet, but I’m not so sure if it stays suitable for our species. As long as there’s ice on the poles, they act as airco. Onder they’re gone, it is over.

      5. a small individual attempt can make a difference.. Govt can only legislate laws …its our responsibilities to execute😎

Not always, is it? 100 companies emit 70% of carbon dioxide emissions. And unless that is curtailed, individual action alone won’t make any difference.

Exactly! And it’s so sad to see that people are actually diluting environmental protection laws in the time of a climate and ecological crisis!

Spoken like someone who believes the governments… In a neo-liberalist world, it’s not the governments who wield power, but business. Business is what decides what happens. We’ve now for a long time aimed for a free market, so much do that companies are larger than governments. Multinationals don’t listen to governments. They are free as a bird, because they’ll land wherever they can do as they please. Yet it’s those multinationals who destroy the world, not small individuals. These companies have grown so large, we no longer have a choice but to use their services.
Did you know the servers Google built in The Netherlands use approximately the same amount of electricity as the whole city of Amsterdam? And that’s just a tiny part and a relatively small player in for the environment.

      10. I just believe that we can contribute by not throwing garbage on the streets, by planting tree etc etc…I cannot deny the facts stated by you…In India, we are paying taxes for cleanliness in the form of swaach bharat tax still ..here you will find people polluting environment… Govt legislate law are only in paper form…If we don’t obey the rules, we will be definitely penalised but a few sections of the community are okay to pay fine to polluting the environment…

  4. Hi Sheena, You have written beautifully by igniting the dormant consciousness of the people. It should be a natural act but as like most other things, humans fell for the concept of taking everything for granted! Have a good day!

We(humans) have only taken from nature not given anything in return .. it is very sad .. we does not own this planet .. even we are making things worse for other Living organisms .. we only think of our development .. it will leed us to no where .. from the time of industrial revolution many species have gone extinct and so many are in endangered list .. oceans are turned into dumping areas .. forest cover are reducing .. global warming is major concern .. pollution is killing like a slow poison .. etc etc etc etc 😞 it’s a long list .. because of us all kind of life on earth is getting disturbed .. and on that we celebrate so called environment day .. making fool of our self .. we are the most stupid species ever been on this planet .

    1. Deforestation force animals to move to cities as they are not be able to find adequate shelter, water, and food to survive within forest. Such animals are killed to protect human from them … Another example of our contribution to environment..Sadly,its a never ending list😒

Really good point! I have recently come back from documenting wildlife in Madagascar, somewhere under critical threat right now and can really see the impact of anthropogenic stress. We need to be conscious of our actions every day of every year.
